Add Rich Media to the Skill Detail Page in the Developer Console

You can increase customers' interest in your skill and expand your customer base by adding rich media, such as video and images, to your Alexa skill detail page.

Use rich media assets

Skill detail page on a mobile device

Your skill detail page educates customers about the value of your skill and shows them how the skill works. The use of rich media assets on your skill detail page increases customer engagement with Alexa. Rich media includes images, video, and the featured (still) image customers see before your video plays.

The figures in this section show how rich media looks on finished skill detail pages. The first figure shows a skill detail page viewed on a mobile device. The second shows a skill detail page displayed in the Alexa Skills Store.

Placement

Rich media assets are displayed across Amazon Alexa skill detail pages in the following locations.

Limits

You can upload one video and up to five images, not including the featured image for your video. The use of rich media is optional—you're not required to add images or video to your skill for distribution. If you choose not to use rich media, your skill’s logo continues to be the primary image that represents your skill.

Locales

Skill detail page in the Alexa Skills Store

You can designate specific media assets for each locale in which your skill is distributed. When you use locale-specific assets, videos are spoken in the language the customer expects, and written captions, signs, and other language appears in the customer's language. The asset limits for each locale are the same as for the primary locale—that is, one video and up to five images. Your locale-specific assets must also pass certification.

Prepare your assets

Before you begin, you must access the developer console, add your skill logo and metadata, and make sure your rich media assets meet the required specifications.

Access the developer console

Before you upload your rich media assets, you need an Amazon developer account to access the Amazon Alexa developer console. You can use an existing Amazon account to sign in, or you can create a new account. The account is free.

Supply a skill logo and metadata

If you haven't already done so, upload a skill logo and supply the specified metadata for your skill, including your skill name, brief and detailed descriptions, example launch phrases, skill category, keywords, privacy policy URL, and terms of use URL. For instructions, see Tutorial: Build Your First Alexa Skill in the Developer Console.
