Acquisition Reports

The acquisition dashboard and reports present key performance indicators (KPIs) that you can use to measure your app's acquisition. Metrics include number of unique daily installs, number of daily install events, and number of current user installs. The reports provide daily metrics across two dimensions: device type and marketplace.

Acquisition dashboard

With the acquisition dashboard, you can use data visualizations and data tables to measure your app's acquisition through KPIs. The acquisition dashboard contains metrics for number of unique daily installs, number of daily install events, and number of current user installs.

To view metrics for your app on the acquisition dashboard, follow these steps

  1. On the Developer Console dashboard, click the Reporting tab.
  2. To view the acquisition dashboard, select App statistics > Acquisition in the left menu.
  3. Select an app on which to view insights.

On the top of the acquisition dashboard, you can view the statistics for three important KPIs: DAILY INSTALLS (UNIQUE), DAILY INSTALL EVENTS, and CURRENT USER INSTALLS.

  • DAILY INSTALLS (UNIQUE) is a daily metric that shows the number of unique users who installed the app for the day indicated.
  • DAILY INSTALL EVENTS is a daily metric that shows the number of install events that happened for the day indicated.
  • CURRENT USER INSTALLS is a metric that shows the total number of unique users who have the app installed on their devices as of the day indicated.

Each metric contains a comparison trend from the previous day. Metrics are updated with a 72-hour lag, which means that on any given day the latest data available would be from three days prior.

Data that appears on the acquisition dashboard uses the same metrics that are available in the downloadable monthly acquisition reports. For answers to questions about data availability and metric definitions, see the Acquisition report FAQ. For details on monthly reports, see Download acquisition reports.

Configure report

The remainder of the dashboard lets you explore KPIs using charts and tables. In the Configure Report section, you can customize the KPIs on your dashboard using the available metrics and filters. The generated chart is based on your selection.

To customize the KPIs on your dashboard, follow these steps

  1. From the drop-down, select your metric of choice. Available metrics are: DAILY INSTALLS (UNIQUE), DAILY INSTALL EVENTS, and CURRENT USER INSTALLS.
  2. Select the time period for which you want to view the trends. Options are Last 7 days, Last 30 days, Last 60 days, Last 90 days, and Last 180 days.
  3. You can filter the chart data by device type and marketplace. By default, all device types and all marketplaces are selected. Use the Filter by drop-downs to select the device types and marketplace that you want to filter by. The chart updates based on your selections.

The dashboard view for each user associated with your developer account is separate. A user's selections are seen only by that user and don't affect the dashboard view of other users.

Data tables

The Data Tables section contains two tables with a snapshot view of the KPI you chose in the Configure Report section. One table shows your KPI by marketplace and the other shows your KPI by device type. Each row in the table shows metrics for one day.

Download acquisition reports

In the download center, you can download monthly acquisition reports.

To download acquisition reports, use the following steps

  1. On the Developer Console dashboard, click the Reporting tab.
  2. In the left menu, select Download Center.
  3. In the main panel, select Acquisition Reports.
  4. Select the month of the report that you want to download.

The downloaded report is a CSV file. This CSV file is updated every 24 hours, but the latest data available lags by 72 hours. For example, a report downloaded on September 15 will contain data through September 12.

Acquisition report fields

The CSV file is a text file with a .csv file extension. The CSV file must use UTF-8 encoding to support localized strings.

The CSV file contains one header row, which displays the column titles. Each subsequent row in the file contains the information for one report item.

The following table describes the fields for each entry (row) in the CSV file.

Field Type Description Example
Date String The date and time when the event was triggered. Format is MM-DD-YYYY. 03-13-2023
Device Type String The device type on which the event was triggered. Fire TV
Marketplace String The Amazon marketplace in which the event occurred. Valid values: Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de, Amazon.fr, Amazon.it, Amazon.es, Amazon.co.jp, Amazon.ca, Amazon.com.br, Amazon.com.au, Amazon.in, Amazon.com.mx, ALL. Amazon.com
App ASIN Alphanumeric String Amazon Standard Identification Number (ASIN) for the app. C00006M4PF
App Name String Name of the app that corresponds to the ASIN.
Daily Installs (unique) Integer Number of unique users who installed the app on the given day. 8590
Daily Install Events Integer Number of user-initiated install events that occurred on the given day. 1065
Current User Installs Integer Total number of unique users who have the app installed on their devices. 109873

Acquisition report FAQ

The following are frequently asked questions (FAQ) about the acquisition dashboard and downloadable reports.

Metrics

Questions about the data contained in the acquisition dashboard and downloadable report.

Q: What is the difference between daily install events and daily installs (unique)?

A daily install event happens every time a user installs an app on a particular day. Daily installs, however, represents the unique number of users that install the app on a particular day. Imagine a user has more than one device. The user installs the app on three devices on a given day. On that day, that user produced three daily install events, but only incremented the daily installs (unique) number by one.

If on the same day, the user installed the app, uninstalled the app, and re-installed it again, there was only one daily install for that unique user, but they produced two daily install events.

Q: Are pre-installations (apps which are pre-installed on devices) included in the daily installs and daily install events metrics?

If your app is pre-installed on the OS of the Fire device, that installation is not included in the acquisition report. However, if the Fire device prompts the user with a list of optional apps to install, and your app is on that list and selected by the user, that installation is included in the daily installs and daily install events metrics.

If a user enabled the easy upgrade feature on their Fire TV device, and they perform a factory reset, previously installed apps are installed again. These installations are included in the daily installs and daily installs events metrics.

Q: What is the current user installs metric? How is it calculated?

The current user installs metric represents the total number of unique users who currently have your app installed on their devices. The Appstore estimates this metric by counting the users who have installed your app in the last five years and haven't uninstalled it. This could include users who installed the app, uninstalled it later, then re-installed it and currently have it installed. This is different from active users or active devices metrics where your app was recently used.

Q: I see slightly different values of metrics across days from day one. Is this expected?

Yes. While most of the data is updated in 72 hours, some data can take up to 30 days to update.

Report availability

Questions about access and availability of acquisition reports.

Q: Can all user roles within the developer account access the acquisition reports and dashboard?

Yes. All user roles within the developer account can access the acquisition reports and dashboard.

Dashboard

Q: What is the most recent data I can view on the acquisition dashboard?

If you view the acquisition dashboard on a particular day, the most recent data would be from 72 hours ago, or three days prior. For example, if you view the dashboard on September 15, the most recent data on the dashboard would be from September 12.

Downloadable reports

Q: How often is the downloadable report refreshed?

The downloadable monthly report is refreshed daily, but data lags by 72 hours. For example, on September 15, the report contains data up to September 12. On September 16, the data from September 13 is appended to the report, and so on.

Q: How many months of reports can I view?

With every subsequent month, you can see one additional report in the Developer Console. At any point in time, no more than 12 months of reports are available in the Developer Console.

Q: Can I use the Reporting API to download acquisition reports?

Currently, downloading acquisition reports through the Reporting API isn't supported.

Report comparison

Comparison with other reports.

Q: How does data in the sales reports compare to data in the acquisition reports?

Sales reports contain data on all the purchases made by users on your app. This includes in-app purchases, subscriptions, and also app purchases that are free of cost. Acquisition reports contain the number of events and the number of users who installed your app.

Data specifications

Q: Are there scenarios where I can't view my app's acquisition metrics?

To ensure that reporting doesn't threaten data privacy, you can't view metrics if your install base (current user installs) is very low.
