Post Purchase
The ownership of receipts, receipt lookups, and refunds in a Just Walk Out technology store depends on your Retail Integration (RI) model, specifically, the party that orchestrates payment, not on how shoppers enter the store. Use the Digital Store Design Wizard to identify your RI model.

Receipt Generation
- Amazon generated receipts — Amazon generates an itemized receipt that can display your logo, contact information, and formatting for RI models where Amazon orchestrates payment. Shoppers who entered with a credit card can sign up for email receipts by entering their email address at the receipt kiosk inside the location; after that, they receive an itemized receipt via email for that visit and any future trips at Just Walk Out technology enabled locations where they use the same payment card for entry.
- Retailer generated receipts — If your RI model delegates payment orchestration to you, you are responsible for generating receipts in your own back-office systems and delivering them through your own channels (for example, your mobile app or email). For credit card entry stores (CCE Fully Delegated and CCE Partially Delegated), Amazon provides a set of payment APIs — such as Get Transactional Data and Get Shopper Identity — that supply the data you need to build your shopper receipt experience. App Fully Delegated, Badge Fully Delegated, and Cart as a Service stores do not use the Just Walk Out payment APIs; you generate receipts from the order and payment data already in your systems.
Receipt Lookup
- Where Amazon generates receipts, shoppers can use the Just Walk Out receipt lookup website to find a historical record of a shopping trip using their payment card.
- Where you generate receipts, you provide receipt lookup through your own experience, such as your mobile app or a retailer-built portal.

Refund Processing
- Amazon managed refund process — For RI models where Amazon orchestrates payment, Amazon provides the capability for a retailer to request a refund on behalf of the shopper through the standard support processes, which minimizes the development and integration a retailer is required to implement.
- Retailer managed refund process — If your RI model delegates payment orchestration to you, you own refund processing. For credit card entry stores (CCE Fully Delegated and CCE Partially Delegated), Amazon provides a Refund API (
POST /v1/refund) which allows you to trigger a refund with the pre-integrated payment processor within 30 days of the shopping trip, as well as provide feedback to Amazon as to why the refund was requested. App Fully Delegated, Badge Fully Delegated, and Cart as a Service stores process refunds entirely through their own payment systems.
