Today, we introduced Alexa+, our next-generation assistant powered by generative AI. Alexa+ is more conversational, smarter, personalized, and gets things done. Read more about today’s announcement here.

Developers and partners have been core to our vision since the beginning. With Alexa+, we reimagined how you can build for Alexa. Our new architecture, which connects LLMs, agentic capabilities, services, and devices at scale, includes new developer integrations to connect your services: Alexa AI Action SDK, Alexa AI Web Action SDK, and Alexa AI Multi-Agent SDK. Partners like OpenTable, GrubHub, Yelp, Tripadvisor, Viator, and Fodor’s are already using these tools to make their experiences available on Alexa+. These tools enable you to:

  • Surface seamlessly into Alexa’s conversational capabilities— To access your services, customers no longer need to remember specific phrases or commands. Your services become part of a customer’s natural conversations with Alexa.

  • Deliver a complete customer experience, including linked accounts and payments— Alexa+ enables customers to use QR codes to easily connect external accounts to finish transactions, complete a booking, schedule an appointment, etc., eliminating the need to open multiple apps.

  • Create more personalized customer experiences— Alexa+ is highly personalized, and gives customers opportunities to personalize further. It can remember a favorite restaurant, travel preferences, likes and dislikes, and builds a deeper understanding of the customer over time. This continuous learning enables smarter and more personalized recommendations based on past choices and preferences, increasing customer engagement and retention.

See Alexa+ in action as it handles conversational requests, manages payments, and delivers personalized experiences.

"Our integration with Alexa+ aligns perfectly with OpenTable's goal of meeting diners where they are. By tapping into 600 million+ Alexa-enabled devices, we're expanding our reach to new diners while driving more bookings to our 60,000+ restaurant partners through another trusted channel. This integration not only simplifies the booking process for diners but also strengthens our position as innovators in the restaurant tech industry, continuing our legacy of helping restaurants thrive."

- Sagar Mehta, Chief Technology Officer, OpenTable

Building for Alexa+

We rearchitected the skills category kits to incorporate generative AI-powered experiences while maintaining the developer interfaces and implementations. For customers, this means many of the services they know and love, like their favorite music provider or their smart home devices, are available and enhanced on Alexa+. Customers can now speak more naturally, saying things like, “Alexa, who won best new artist last month?” to find and play their music, or say “Alexa, it's dark in here,” to brighten a room.

“From the start, Alexa promised that by integrating with their simple and reliable skill kit interfaces, we could bring our experience to all Alexa users, no matter what device they were using. Over the years, this integration has allowed us to be a launch-day partner for every new Alexa device, everywhere Alexa and Spotify are available.

With Alexa+, it’s exciting to see how they’ve completely reimagined and rebuilt their product with advanced intelligence and generative AI. They have significantly improved the experience for customers—while still maintaining the same dependable interfaces for partners. By keeping us insulated from the complexities of this major overhaul, they’re staying true to their promise. This allows us to instead continue focusing on bringing the best of Spotify content and personalization to Alexa.”

- Arthur Nicholls, Senior Director of Product, Spotify

Alexa AI Action SDK: Turning APIs into Actions

The Alexa AI Action SDK allows reliable real-time API calls. It leverages our LLM-powered reasoning, built-in personalization, and task completion capabilities to help customers get more done using your services. For example, Alexa can notify customers when tickets for their favorite artist become available or when prices drop to their preferred range. Customers can even use Alexa+ to purchase those tickets through Ticketmaster, using a stored payment method in their Amazon account. It’s incredibly complex, yet so simple for customers. In this initial phase, we are focusing on three key areas: reservations for dining and entertainment; home services including repair and maintenance; and booking local activities and events. Apply here for early access.

Alexa AI Web Action SDK: Alexa can now take actions on the web

For partners without fully externalized APIs ready for integration, Alexa+ introduces agentic capabilities enabling self-directed internet navigation to complete tasks on the customer’s behalf. Designed to work with existing websites using low-code workflows, the Alexa AI Web Action SDK lets you define the required steps and tasks customers can complete on your website. Alexa can then navigate websites to complete customer requests, such as finding a highly-rated plumber with weekend availability, scheduling the repair, and paying if appropriate.

“Integrating our services into the New Alexa experience will allow us to dramatically expand our reach, empowering us to bring our tech and pro community to millions of additional homeowners. Now, we can proactively help more people identify the right home improvement projects and connect them with qualified professionals to get the work done. By leveraging our partner platform and Alexa’s AI website orchestration, we were able to accelerate our time-to-market all while preserving a best-in-class customer experience.”

Alexa AI Multi-Agent SDK: Bringing your agent to Alexa customers

We see a future of specialized agents that will be extremely smart in very specific areas, like advanced tutoring, specialized productivity, and research. Alexa+ will interact with these agents on behalf of customers. The vision is taking shape with some of the partners we announced today—we’re working with Suno, an agent for generative music; and we built a Math Tutor agent powered by APIs from Wolfram.

If you have a specialized agent, we are introducing a preview of the Alexa AI Multi-Agent SDK to showcase your agent alongside Alexa. This framework supports different personalities and interaction styles, while managing the complexities of processing and agent coordination. So, instead of focusing on the technical intricacies, you can create engaging interactions that meet your customers’ unique needs. We are excited to share more developments in the near future.

If you're an existing Alexa skill developer, customers using the original Alexa experience will retain access to all your skills. You can continue to refine, re-certify, republish, and also create new skills on original Alexa. We will continue to support original Alexa, but new developer tools will be focused on Alexa+.
