At Amazon, we're focused on making the ambient smart home a reality. It's the smart home that just works, using devices and services from different brands that talk to each other, creating a more useful home for customers. From the beginning, it’s been our goal to make Alexa compatible with as many smart home devices as possible—regardless of the protocols on which they’re built.
Last month, we announced our plans to deliver a high-quality Matter customer experience by the end of this year. Today, we’re excited to share that we completed the first phase of our Matter rollout. Tens of millions of Alexa customers across the globe now have more ways to connect their devices with the availability of Matter over WiFi spanning 17 different Echo devices*, Plugs, Switches, and Bulbs with Android setup. Our phased approach allows us to begin rolling out Matter support for the most common device types while continuing to work through interoperability, stability and longevity-testing with our partners, ensuring customers have a seamless and high-quality experience with Alexa.
In addition to quality, choice is important for customers. Today, there are more than 30,000 "Works with Alexa" devices customers can select from to create their personalized smart home. Now, with Matter, they will have even more product selection to choose from as they build a smart home that’s right for them. Matter devices will work seamlessly alongside existing smart home devices - so customers can appreciate the familiar and consistent smart home experience with Alexa.
Just as we are providing customers more ways to connect their smart homes, we offer more choice and flexibility for you to create simpler and differentiated experiences with Matter. We’re happy to share a variety of tools to build the best version of your Matter devices. To simplify Matter setup, we built Frustration-Free Setup into the Matter SDK. You can start working with the Commissionable Endpoint API today and next year, new Alexa Ambient Home Dev Kit features for credentials and Matter multi-admin simple setup. For developers who prefer a managed solution, you can start building Matter devices today with ACK SDK for Matter, easily adding local Matter connectivity to your devices while benefiting from the unique insights and capabilities provided by managed cloud connectivity.
We don’t stop at helping you build devices and experiences. We also help you to build and grow your business. For the millions of customers who shop on Amazon.com for smart home devices every day, our Works with Alexa (WWA) program gives them confidence your Matter devices will provide a great customer experience with Alexa and help to drive preferences for them.
Developers are already leveraging these tools today, building Alexa’s differentiated features into their Matter devices and delivering easy, unique and reliable experiences for the tens of millions of existing customers who are ready to connect Matter devices with Alexa.
You can find more information and resources on our Matter developer portal.
As a founding member and key contributor of Matter, we’re thrilled to continue this momentum and bring broader Matter availability to more devices early next year. We’re equally excited to be working together with you to raise the bar on the customer experience and deliver new devices and experiences to power ambient smart homes both now and in the future.
Stayed tuned for our upcoming CES announcements on the developer portal and join us to experience the possibilities of ambient smart homes powered by Alexa, seamlessly connecting smart home devices and the latest Matter devices at the Venetian Amazon Experience Area.
