At Alexa, we constantly raise the quality bar for Works with Alexa certified devices to ensure that they meet evolving expectations for energy efficiency, security, and feature support for Alexa customers. The Alexa developer community is vital to creating high-quality certified products that delight our shared customers with innovative features while ensuring peace of mind through trusted, secure connected experiences. To help meet Works with Alexa standards and reduce friction in the certification process, we are excited to announce new ways to certify devices
Amazon will offer developers more convenient certification testing locations worldwide including Allion Labs and PAL Acoustics. Before submitting a product for certification, developers may negotiate a competitive quote and service-level-agreements with the new test facilities or with UL Solutions, which has offered Works with Alexa testing since the program’s inception.
Once you have selected a preferred test facility for your product, Amazon will automatically transmit certification requirements to that facility and then approve Works with Alexa certification for your product if it meets our certification criteria. To ensure global coverage, we will continue to add new test sites to our list of authorized labs. Please reference this page for an updated list.
We are excited to offer the Connectivity Standards Alliance’s Interoperability Test Facility for Works with Alexa certification, as an optional service delivered separately from and in addition to the Matter certification process. Starting March 17, 2025, Amazon will accept Interoperability Lab test results for lighting devices connecting with Alexa through the Matter protocol. These include Light Bulb, Ceiling Light, Light Strip, and Lamp devices, and we plan to expand to more device types like Plugs, Switches, and more later this year. We’re excited to see the development of this program, and worked closely with the CSA to include voice interactions as part of their testing process, which is a requirement for our Works with Alexa certification.
Before submitting a product for Matter certification, CSA Members may negotiate an agreement with the Interoperability Test Facility to additionally perform Works with Alexa Certification testing. When creating an intake with Works with Alexa through the Alexa Certification Console, you may select “CSA Interoperability Lab” as the test facility. When interoperability testing is complete and successful, Amazon will automatically approve Works with Alexa certification for your product. Please reference this page for detailed instructions.
