At Argentum, Amazon announced a new suite of Alexa Smart Properties for Senior Living features tailored for providers looking to deploy, manage, and customize Alexa-enabled experiences at scale for senior living residences. Today, Alexa Smart Properties provides device fleet management of Alexa-enabled devices for senior living communities like Atria Senior Living, Carlton Senior Living and Juniper Senior Living to help older adult residents live more independently and stay connected to their community while alleviating the workload of staff associates by streamlining everyday tasks.

With the new features included in today’s announcement, senior living residences and solution providers have even more ways to enable device fleet management and build Alexa capabilities at scale using Alexa Smart Properties APIs and devices:

  • WebRTC Support: The upcoming ability for residents and associate staff to conduct audio and video calls between Echo devices and non-Echo devices like tablets or laptops. Calls can also be made to people who are off-property, enabling the ability for residents to connect with their loved ones more seamlessly.

  • Private Branch Exchange (PBX) Support: Allowing senior living providers to link Alexa Smart Properties-supported devices with their properties’ phone systems for routing Alexa calls and supporting caller ID when residents and associate staff conduct inbound and outbound calls.

  • WPA2 Enterprise Wi-Fi:  The upcoming ability to onboard Alexa Smart Properties-supported devices to WPA2 Enterprise Wi-Fi networks so that providers can safely and securely connect these devices to Wi-Fi more seamlessly without having to create another public network.

  • Echo Show 15: Amazon’s largest Echo display is available for senior living deployments. It is a multi-modal, wall mounted solution that features a large screen for ideal accessibility and digital signage, as well as the ability to be sanitized more effectively with its plastic and glass case materials,

Alexa Smart Properties for Senior Living also announced momentum with providers like Atria Senior Living - a leading manager of independent living, assisted living, supportive living and memory care communities in more than 370 locations in 44 states and seven Canadian provinces. Atria Senior Living recently completed their latest Alexa Smart Properties deployment of Echo Show devices at communities in each of its senior living brands: Coterie, Atria Signature, Atria Senior Living and Holiday by Atria. They saw a 50-75% increase in participation in Engage Life® events at Atria locations, which are live with Alexa Smart Properties.

“We’re thrilled to offer new tools for senior living communities to leverage ambient intelligence to increase resident engagement and reduce everyday tasks for staff.” said Bram Duchovnay, Director of Alexa Smart Properties.
