We are excited to announce the general availability of the Music Skill API in the Alexa Skills Kit (ASK). You can use the Alexa Skills Kit (ASK) Music Skill API to connect your music streaming service to Alexa in the US. Once you’ve connected, your customers in the US can enjoy music from your catalog on tens of millions of Alexa-enabled devices.
The Music Skill API gives you self-service access to the Alexa capabilities you need to enable customers to search your catalog via voice, and stream their choices to Amazon Echo and other Alexa-compatible devices. You do not need to build your own voice user interface; instead, you simply provide your music catalog metadata to Amazon on a regular basis, and we automatically update the Alexa voice model and grammars used by customers. Once you’ve published your skill, your customers can play music by simply saying, for example, “Alexa, play songs by <artist> from <your music service>.”
Once you build and publish a music skill, your customers can stream to any Amazon Echo or other Alexa-enabled device, or to multiple Echo devices using multi-room music. They can also use music in your catalog for alarms. You can control the experience with skip limits and stream protection, and monitor and improve ongoing skill performance using event metrics including skill enablement and disablement, account linking, and music playback. Best of all, once the Music Skill API is available, you can develop your skill in a completely self-service manner using the Alexa Skills Kit.
The Music Skill API is available now to use with US skills. To learn how to use it, read Understanding the Music Skill API in our documentation. We’ve also added tools to the Certification tab in the Alexa developer console to help you validate your music skills before you submit them for certification. You can learn more about our validation and functional tests in Test and Submit Your Skill for Certification.
