Amazon's Alexa and ThunderSoft today announced a collaboration to bring intelligent voice AI and agentic capabilities to more automotive OEMs. The collaboration combines Alexa Custom Assistant – Amazon's production-ready in-vehicle AI voice solution – with ThunderSoft's cockpit integration and global OEM delivery expertise, giving automakers a faster path to differentiated, branded in-vehicle experiences.

Bringing Alexa+ intelligence to more vehicles through ThunderSoft

Alexa Custom Assistant (ACA) is built on the Alexa+ architecture – over 70 large language models – and agentic capabilities powered by Amazon Bedrock on AWS. It enables automakers to create a branded in-vehicle AI assistant that passengers interact with using natural language, not memorized commands.

ACA handles vehicle control, navigation, music streaming, smart home, communications, restaurant reservations, ticketing, news, and more – delivering a connected, personalized experience that extends from vehicle to home and back.

Through this collaboration, ThunderSoft will be able to integrate ACA directly into OEM vehicle architectures – handling system-level integration with vehicle hardware and operating systems, OEM-specific customizations and mass production delivery.

A complete solution from cloud to cockpit

Amazon and ThunderSoft will provide automakers with end-to-end support across the launch lifecycle from proven reference designs through to production-ready deployment. This will give automakers complete support across the in-vehicle voice assistant stack:

  • Alexa Custom Assistant (ACA): Delivers a conversational, intelligent, and branded voice experience deeply integrated with the vehicle and connected to Amazon’s content and services.
  • AWS cloud and AI foundation: Powered by Amazon Bedrock for generative AI and Amazon Bedrock AgentCore as a secure agent runtime environment, OEMs can plug their own custom AI agents directly into the assistant experience.
  • Edge/Cloud hybrid architecture: Combines cloud-based AI with on-device capabilities, balancing the power of advanced models with critical on-device advantages: low-latency conversation, cost-efficient connectivity and offline availability.

Helping OEMs move fast

Building a world-class voice assistant from scratch requires years of development across conversational AI, cloud infrastructure, vehicle integration and ongoing model innovation. This collaboration will compress that timeline.

Amazon's ACA and AWS provide a production-ready foundation that supports extensive customization — enabling OEMs to launch differentiated, voice-enabled vehicles without rebuilding the stack. And because the architecture supports OEM-built agents through standard protocols, automakers can extend their branded assistant across every touchpoint: in-vehicle systems, mobile applications, and customer service.

How the collaboration works

Amazon provides ACA as a production-ready AI voice solution, backed by AWS cloud and AI infrastructure – giving OEMs a foundation they can build on for the long term.

ThunderSoft will integrate ACA into OEM vehicle architectures – handling cockpit systems integration, hardware and OS adaptation, OEM customization, localization and mass production delivery across global markets.
