Web App Tester

Introduction

Amazon's Web App Tester lets you test your web app in a production-like environment on your Kindle Fire or Android device, without first submitting it to our store. The tester offers a suite of tools to help you debug your web apps to ensure they will look and work great on Kindle Fire and Android devices. It can also be used to create a native-like experience by testing your web app in the new, faster web runtime available for Kindle Fire HD 7”, Kindle Fire HD 8.9”, and Kindle Fire (2nd generation).

Installing the Web App Tester

The Web App Tester is available for download from Amazon. You can shop for the Web App Tester from your Kindle Fire, from Amazon.com on your computer, or by downloading the app to your Android device.

Detailed instructions on installing apps can be found here.

Testing Your Web App

There are two ways to load your web app into the tester:

1. Enter the URLs manually

This method is useful for quickly testing individual web apps.

  • On your device locate the Web App Tester icon and tap it to open the tester.
  • In the app URL text box type your web app URL and tap Save.

2. Use a JSON file that contains multiple web app URLs

This method is useful for testing a number of web apps.

  • On your computer open a text editor and create a text file called amazon.testerurls.json containing the URLs of your web apps.
    Use the following sample as a template to create your file.

    Sample JSON file

    {
     "urls":[
    	"http://m.imdb.com",
    	"http://m.amazon.com",
    	"https://read.amazon.com"
            ]
    }

  • Using a USB cable, connect your device to your computer.
  • On your computer navigate to the location where you saved the file and copy the file to the device's file system root.

  • On your device, open the Web App Tester and tap View JSON URLs just below the URL text box to load the JSON file.
  • The URLs are displayed in a list below the URL text box.
