Got skills? Bring your big idea to life with Alexa and reap the benefits. U.S. developers can now participate in a milestone-based promotion to create engaging skills to help make Alexa even smarter.
Developers have from now until the end of 2018 to achieve each of the milestones:
Build Your First Alexa Skill: Get started with the Alexa Skills Kit. Publish your first Alexa skill and earn a custom Alexa developer t-shirt. Log in to the developer portal and start building your first skill today.
Build a Multimodal Experience: Publish a skill for Alexa-enabled devices with screens, like Echo Show or Echo Spot, using the Alexa Presentation Language or Display Templates. Your skill must include at least one APL document or one display template. Attract 50 unique customers per month for the first three months after publication and earn an Echo Spot. Learn more about building voice-first experiences for devices with screens.
Build a Skill with the Gadgets Skill API: Turn an Alexa device into a hub for interactive play. Publish a skill using the Gadgets Skill API and earn a 2-pack of Echo Buttons. Learn more about the Gadgets Skill API to get started.
Apply to each milestone once you meet all the qualifications. Use our templates to get started quickly, then build the skill of your daydreams. Once you publish your skills, don’t forget to promote your skills to increase usage so you can earn the sustained engagement promotion. To increase engagement, distribute your skill globally to reach users worldwide who’ve configured their Alexa-enabled devices to use a language that your skill supports. See terms and conditions below the form. Please note: You may only apply to Alexa promotions in the country you physically reside in even if you publish your skill to other locales.
Need more information? Read our FAQ.
Q: Can I submit my skill name instead of my skill ID? A: Incomplete submissions will be marked as invalid. You must include the amzn1 at the front of your skill ID and it must be copied exactly as shown in your Amazon Developer Console account (it is case sensitive).
Q: How do I find my skill ID? A: You can find your Skill ID by logging into developer.amazon.com and navigating to Amazon Developer Console > Alexa Skills Kit > View Skill ID. The Skill ID is unique and typically starts with amzn1.ask.skill or amzn1.echo-sdk-ams.app.
Q: Do I have to wait for my skill to go live before I can submit for the promotions? A: Yes. Your skill must be published prior to submitting here or it will be invalid. You will need to submit again once it is published to be considered.
Q: I built a skill with a few of my friends. Can we all apply for the promotion using the same skill ID? A: No. Each skill ID may be used once. The recipient of the code will be at Amazon’s sole discretion and you will need to figure out how to share the promotional benefit.
Q: I published my skill to the US Alexa Skills Store, but I live in another country. Can I still apply to the US promotion? A: No. Developer location on the Company Profile page in the Amazon Developer Console is the determining source for eligibility. You must reside in the US to qualify.
Q: I submitted to the promotion but did not hear back. Why? A: If your address on your Company Profile page in the Amazon Developer Console is outside of the US, you will not hear from us upon submission to the promotion. Please submit to the promotion covered by your address if applicable.
Q: I reside outside of the US. Can I still apply? A: If you’re not in the US, check out our other promotions or preview programs in the UK, Germany, Japan, France, Australia, Italy, Spain, Canada, and India to see if your country of residence is included.
Q: How do I know how many users I had in a particular time frame? A: You can find your engagement metrics in the Amazon Developer Console by clicking on analytics and selecting the custom range button.
Q: What happens if I submit multiple times to the same promotion? A: We will review your last submission prior to the date we validate.
Q: I applied to a promotion some time ago, but did not receive the tracking number for my promotional item. Is there a time limit on questions about the previous monthly incentive program? A: We are happy to help you with any questions from the last 90 days but are unable to help with older requests.
Q: I received a promo code for earning one of the incentives. What should I know? A: Promo codes expire in 90 days. Once they are in your shopping cart, they must be used within 14 days. Promo codes are single use only (meaning once you click on the code provided and log into your Amazon account, no other Amazon account can utilize the code). Promo codes will only work if your preferred marketplace is the US. If you click on the code and your preferred marketplace is not in the US, your code will become invalid and will not be renewed.
