Since 2013, Login with Amazon has provided an OAuth 2.0 protocol authentication system that allows your websites, iOS, Android, Kindle Fire, and Fire TV apps to securely connect with Amazon customers.
Now, we’re making things even easier for customers using your Login with Amazon-enabled apps and games on these devices by providing a single sign-on experience. Login with Amazon no longer needs to ask Amazon customers to sign in. Instead, when a customer clicks the Login with Amazon button in your app, they’ll be logged in automatically using the Amazon account already present on the device. The customer will still be required to consent to share their data once per app.
How it works
Login with Amazon works by providing mobile apps with a recognizable login button that customers can click to sign in. The customer is asked for their consent to share information with you if it’s their first time using Login with Amazon in your app (on subsequent uses, they will skip this step). After consenting, they’re automatically authenticated using their Amazon account and re-directed back to your app – no sign in required.
On Kindle Fire and Fire TV, Login with Amazon uses the Amazon account registered to the device for authentication. On Android and iOS, Login with Amazon uses the account signed into the Amazon Mobile Shopping app for authentication.
For single sign-on to work on iOS and Android, your customer must have installed the Amazon Mobile Shopping app and logged into it. Login with Amazon will use the account signed into the Amazon Mobile Shopping app for single sign-on to other apps. If the Amazon Mobile Shopping app is not installed, Login with Amazon will still work but the customer will be prompted for their login credentials.
There aren’t any prerequisites for Kindle Fire or Fire TV users – Login with Amazon will automatically use the Amazon account registered to the device for authentication.
Customers can use 1-Click Sign In on the following devices:
- Kindle Fire: All customer generations are supported, including Kindle Fire HDX 8.9" (3rd Gen), Kindle Fire HDX 7" (3rd Gen), Kindle Fire HD 7" (3rd Gen), Kindle Fire HD 8.9" (2nd Gen), Kindle Fire HD 7" (2nd Gen), Kindle Fire (2nd Gen) and Kin Fire (1st Gen).
