FFS UX for 3p partners

Overview

This page provides information about the Frustration-Free Setup user experience (UX) process for third party partners and their marketing, product, and design teams.

You will find here information about what UX options are available for the different FFS scenarios.

Please note that these guidelines about the UX options for customers are not mandatory for the FFS certification process.

Zero Touch Setup in progress

When ZTS is performed and succeed, the 3P partner app should show a successful connection to the customer through a notification directly appearing in the 3P partner app.

In the case of a ZTS failure, the customer will not receive an error message, but will be rerouted to the 3P partner app or device onboarding flow.

The ZTS success notification is mandatory in order to avoid all manual re-setup attempts.

Zero touch success

App-based setup with pro-active notification

When a device is not eligible for ZTS, we default to the app-based setup experience.

The customer will receive a notification on their phone if they have allowed notifications from the Alexa app. Then we automatically launch the app-based setup flow on the Alexa app.

The product picture displayed in the UI will be taken from the image provided in the Frustration-Free Setup developer console.

Once the device is connected to the customer’s network and Amazon account, we display a success screen and the “Done” button will lead customers to either open the 3p partner app, if its already installed, or to download the 3p partner app.

Customers will then continue device setup on the 3p partner app.

App-based setup with full screen take over

When a device is not eligible for ZTS, we default to the app-based setup experience.

The customer will plug in and boot up their device and will have the app-based setup and the “On device” setup experience in parallel, meaning they can choose the setup experience they want.

In the device setup flow, a screen will need to be added to show the “Setup on your phone” or “Setup manually” experiences, asking the customer to look at their phone if they choose that option.

If the customer has not allowed notifications from the Alexa app, they will have to manually open the app. We then automatically display the device discovery in a full screen take over. The product picture displayed in the UI will be taken from the image provided in the Frustration-Free Setup developer console.

Once the device is connected to the customer’s network and Amazon account, we display a success screen and the “Done” button will lead customers to either open the 3p partner app, if already installed, or to download the 3P partner app.

Customers will continue device setup on the 3p partner app.
