Get Started with Live App Testing for Cloud App Streaming

This page describes how to use Amazon's Live App Testing (LAT) service. For a conceptual overview of LAT, see Understanding Live App Testing.

Prerequisites

Before you get started with testing your cloud streamed app, you must complete the following.

• Your app must already be part of the Amazon Cloud App Program, as indicated in your Amazon Developer Console.
• To enable the retail flow entitlement, you must sign in to the compatible Vega OS device to make the device available.

Create a live app test

Complete the following steps to create a live app test for the first time. You can also use these steps to return to the LAT service and create another test.

To create a live app test

1. Go to the Developer Console Dashboard, sign in to your account, select Apps & Services > My Apps, and then select your app.
2. If you don't have an app listing for your app yet, follow these steps:
   1. From the top navigation bar, select Apps & Services > My Apps.
   2. Select Add new app > Android/Vega.
   3. Complete the New App Submission page, choose Save, and then go to step 3.

3. Under your app's name, select Live App Testing.

4. If this is the first time that you are setting up a test for your app, select Create a new Live App Test, and then skip to step 7.

5. If you have previously set up a test for your app, choose New Test on the Live App Testing dashboard.

6. On the Create a Live App Test dialog, choose whether you want to copy the details from the version of your app that is currently live or from the previous live app test, then choose Confirm.

   You can optionally enter a name for your live app test.

7. On the Create Live App Test screen, upload your app file.

8. In the Required Details section, complete all fields.

   Optionally, you can update or add a name for your test by choosing the pencil icon. The name you choose appears on the Live App Testing dashboard. If you don't name your test, the Developer Console uses the default naming scheme, which is: Test #X, where X is the latest test number.

   The following list shows the required fields. To learn more about a field, choose the name.

   • App files

     Note: Only the APK format is accepted for upload in the current release.

   • Supported devices (appears after uploading your app file)

     Note: When you upload an APK file and you choose to target a Fire TV Stick 4K Max, a Vega OS device is selected by default. You can deselect Vega OS devices if you don't want to test your APK on a Vega OS device.
   • App title
   • App category
   • App icon (See the note.)
   • Language support
   • Content rating
   • Export compliance
   Note: If your app targets Fire TV, you must include two icons, one 512 x 512px and one 1280 x 720px. During LAT, the same app icons are used for all locales. You can provide localized icons after you finish your testing and promote your app to the upcoming live version.

9. If you have existing tester groups, select the tester groups you want to add to this test.

10. Optionally, you can include additional details about your test.

    The following list shows the optional fields. To learn more about a field, choose the name.

    • Availability
    • Pricing
    • Accelerated timelines
    • App SKU
    • Localized app description and screenshots

    For certain optional fields, if you opt not to complete them, default values are used. The default values are listed in the following table.

    Default values

    Important: After the live app test starts, you can no longer update accelerated timelines.
    Note: Your progress saves automatically. If you leave this screen and return later, all information in the completed fields is retained.

11. When you finish entering information, choose Submit Test.

    After you choose Submit Test with all required fields complete, a dialog appears that prompts you to add or review the tester groups that you want associated with this live app test.

12. Confirm your tester group selections, and then choose Confirm.

After you submit, you are taken to the Live App Testing dashboard, which lists active and past tests for your app. If you need to add testers, see Add testers to a live app test.

Differences from standard app submission process

Live App Testing submission differs from the standard app submission workflow. The following fields that are available in the app submission flow, aren't available during LAT submission:

• Customer support contact
• Target audience
• User data privacy
• Long description
• Keywords
• Product feature bullets
• Small icon
• Promotional image
• Video
• Fire TV assets
• Localized icons
• Testing instructions
• Amazon Maps redirection

To complete these fields, finish your testing and promote your app to the upcoming live version. After the app is promoted, the fields of the current non-submitted app will populate with metadata from the LAT version of the app. Now you can complete any missing or additional information before submitting your app for publishing.

Add testers to a live app test

The following steps show you how to add new testers or add existing testers to a specific live app test. For general instructions about how to manage testers in your account, see Manage Testers.

To add testers to a specific live app test

1. If you don't have the Live App Testing dashboard open, go to the Developer Console dashboard, sign in to your account, select Apps & Services > My Apps, and then select your app.
2. Under Actions, select the menu icon, and then choose Live App Testing.

3. From the Live App Testing dashboard, select Manage testers.

   

4. On the testers screen, select Add new testers.

   All testers must be in a group. From this screen, you can choose to add new testers or add existing testers from an existing group.

   • Add New Testers
   • Add Existing Testers
   1. Select the Add new testers radio button.

   2. Either upload a CSV file or add testers individually.

      If you use a CSV file, list the testers with the format: email,first name,last name. If you add testers individually, use the plus button to add more. You can add yourself as a tester to get an invitation email and be notified that the app is available to download and test.

   3. Add the testers to a group by either creating a new group, or adding the testers to an existing group:
      • To create a new group, select Create new tester group.

      • Select the Add new tester group checkbox, then enter a name for the group in the field.

        

        

      • To add the tester to an existing group, select the groups to which you want the tester added.
        Note: If you chose to add this tester to groups that are associated with other apps, you can choose to add this tester to those apps by selecting "Add testers to all LATs currently associated with the selected group(s)."
   4. Read the statement concerning having rights, tester consent to receive communications, and the age of testers.
   5. To confirm this statement, select the checkbox next to the statement, and then choose Add.

   1. Select the Add existing testers radio button.
   2. Under Existing testers, use the radio buttons to choose whether to add entire groups or select specific testers from one or more groups.
   3. After choosing the groups or testers, choose Add.

   

5. After adding testers, go to the Live App Testing dashboard to view the active tests.

6. If you haven't yet submitted your live app test, in the Actions column of the active test, choose the menu button, and then select Submit.

   

You've added testers for LAT. You'll receive two notifications, an email link and, if eligible, a push notification on your device. You'll receive separate notifications when LAT APK publishing is complete on a Vega OS device.

Manage tests on the Live App Testing dashboard

You can manage your active tests and see past tests on the Live App Testing dashboard. To get familiar with the sections of the Live App Testing dashboard, review the following image.

The numbers on the image indicate the following:

1. This is the Live App Testing dashboard.
2. You can manage active tests and testers in the Active Tests section.
3. You can view past tests in the Past Tests section.

To access the dashboard

1. Go to the Developer Console dashboard, sign in to your account, select Apps & Services > My Apps, and then select your app.
2. Under Actions, choose the menu icon, and then choose Live App Testing.
