Amazon Cloud App Streaming Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get my app enrolled in the Cloud App Program?

Amazon cloud app streaming does not have open enrollment. If you would like to indicate interest, please reach out to Developer Support with the Cloud App Program category and General Inquiries subject.

How do I know if my app is enrolled in the Cloud App Program?

If you don't already have your own Vega OS version for your app, look at the device support for your app in the Amazon developer portal. If your app shows support for a Vega OS Fire TV device, then it is being delivered via Amazon cloud app streaming. You can also tell by looking for your device in the Amazon Appstore on your Vega OS Fire TV device. If your app is there and says "Amazon cloud-hosted app" on the details page, it is being delivered via Amazon cloud app streaming.

I am enrolled in the Cloud App Program, do I need to do any additional steps to distribute my app to Vega OS Fire TV devices?

No, as a participant in the Cloud App Program, your application is automatically hosted in Amazon cloud app streaming and available to Vega OS Fire TV devices. A mini app is generated to enable Vega OS Fire TV device customers to find and install your app from the Appstore. No additional work is required from the developer. Please see the Update a Published App for details about updating your app in Amazon cloud app streaming.

I already have apps available via cloud app streaming, how do I add a new app?

We do not guarantee that your new app will be added, but we would like to hear from you. Please reach out to Developer Support with the Cloud App Program category and the General Inquiries subject. Please include your ASIN(s) already being streamed along with the ASIN(s) you would like to have added.

Is there a fee to be in the Cloud App Program?

Amazon cloud app streaming will be free of charge for at least the first 9 months of operation, giving you ample time to deploy a Vega OS version of your app. Beyond that, we anticipate charging a fee based on the number of monthly active users. Exact pricing will be available at least 6 months before billing would start.

Does Amazon In-App Purchasing work in cloud streamed apps?

Yes, Amazon In-App Purchasing is supported in cloud streamed apps.

Does Amazon cloud app streaming support in-app ad SDKs?

If your in-app ad SDK runs on Fire OS 7, it should function in cloud app streaming as it does on a Fire TV Stick 4K Max. The only difference is that apps requiring local targeting based on IP address should reach out to Developer Support with the Cloud App Program category and Functional Issues subject to request that their app be enabled with IP tunneling. IP tunneling will ensure that the ad network sees the IP address of the device gateway instead of the AWS cloud gateway.

What Fire OS features will not work when my app is delivered via Amazon cloud app streaming?

As of October 2025, the following features are not supported for apps running in Amazon cloud app streaming:

  • Local network and local device access (for example, DLNA, playing content from USB).
  • Picture in Picture.
  • Fire OS discover and launch.
  • Vega OS home screen live TV EPG integration.
  • Continue watching row references.

How do I troubleshoot/fix any functional issues specific to my app running on cloud app streaming?

Your Fire OS APK deployed in Amazon cloud app streaming should function as it does on a Fire TV Stick running Fire OS 7. If your app is working correctly on a Fire OS device and you notice any issues specific to cloud app streaming, these issues almost always need to be addressed by Amazon. They typically cannot be addressed with fixes to the Fire OS APK. Please reach out to Developer Support with the Cloud App Program category and Functional Issues subject to report the issue, being sure to include the full set of information requested in the template.

How does Internet speed impact the cloud app streaming customer experience?

A fast, low-latency Internet connection will maximize how fluid the app feels to your customers. Cloud app streaming requires a minimal amount of additional bandwidth on top of the bandwidth the device will use for content delivery.

What information do I need before I file a "Contact Us" case for help?

Please be sure to supply the following information so we can act on your request:

  • App Name.
  • ASIN + Version.
  • Device Serial Number and OS version. On your device, go to My Fire TV > About.
  • Amazon Account Customer ID used during testing.
  • Device Locale (for example, US, JP, DE).
  • Reproducibility: Consistent / Intermittent / Rare.
  • Regression: Y/N.
  • Live App Test result or end customer usage result.
  • Screen shot or video of error.
  • Time of error, including timezone.

How do I migrate my ASIN from the Amazon cloud app streaming to a Vega OS version?

When developing your own Vega OS app, you will create your own VPKG. Uploading that VPKG as a binary targeting the Vega OS Fire TV devices currently served by the cloud app streaming version of your app will replace that version with your own version. When submitting the new VPKG, be sure to give it a version and build number greater than the one currently shown for the mini VPKG used by your app for cloud app streaming. Please refer to the Version Your App page of the Vega OS developer documentation for instructions on how to set those values. A notice will then go out to your existing customers to update their app, which will update them away from cloud app streaming to your own Vega OS app.
