2025 Year-in-Review: New Platforms, New Tools, New Devices

Announcements

2025 was a big year for Amazon Developer. We launched a new OS, the first devices that run it, and a brand new version of Alexa! We also met developers around the world, shipped new platform capabilities, expanded our tools, and strengthened alignment with the React ecosystem to support building and scaling apps.

Here’s what we built, how it fits together, and what’s coming next.

Vega OS

In September, we introduced Vega OS, a Linux-based operating system with React Native built directly into the OS layer. Vega gives you a way to build with performance designed for small footprint devices that can easily be ported to other platforms.

Vega is now available to develop for alongside Fire OS with new devices coming for both platforms and both actively supported and listed in the React Native Directory. This gives you a consistent way to build for multiple screens, while reusing skills and code, with the flexibility to choose the approach that best fits your app.

Vega is now live on the Fire TV 4K Stick Select and several new Echo devices, with more compatible devices on the way in 2026.

Vega Developer Tools

New Vega OS developer tools shipped this year to help you build, test, and iterate more efficiently:

To help you get started, we released new documentation and tutorials, GitHub samples, and a Vega OS & Vega Developer Tools video playlist. Learn more about the Vega SDK and Developer tools here.

Expanding your toolkit across Amazon

In addition to the new tools for Vega, we released new sample apps, reports, tutorials, and cross-platform tools for both Fire OS and Vega. These can help you better understand app performance, test more efficiently, and streamline development across devices:

React Foundation

React conference

Amazon Developer joined the React Foundation as a founding member, establishing a shared, community-driven governance model for React and React Native. This governance model supports long-term stability, transparency, and cross-platform alignment across the React community. For developers building for Fire OS and Vega OS, this structure strengthens the technologies you rely on and helps guide React Native’s evolution across mobile, TV, and multi-surface environments.

By participating in the foundation’s working groups, Amazon Developer can represent the needs of developers in the community who want predictable APIs, consistent performance across devices, and clear pathways for code reuse, reinforcing React Native as a sustainable choice for apps that reach customers across screens and platforms.

A look ahead: Alexa+ and 2026

The Early Access preview of Alexa+, our next-generation assistant powered by generative AI, opened new opportunities across Amazon’s voice-enabled devices. More updates are planned for 2026, including expanded Alexa+ support for search, so customers can more easily discover your content.

We will continue to support the Amazon Developer community across Fire OS, Vega, Alexa+, and our family of devices. We can’t wait to see you at all the upcoming events, starting with CES 2026 in January!
