New language and regional services for building voice-enabled products with Alexa
AVS offers language and region-specific services to developers, enabling localized voice experiences. Language models and regional services are all built into the cloud, so developers don’t have to do any of the heavy lifting. Now customers can speak to Alexa and receive responses and content in their preferred language and region.
How AVS Localization Works:
Emma is an Amazon customer located in London. She recently purchased a device with an AVS integration. During the out-of-the-box experience, Emma links to her Amazon account where she has set the UK as her primary marketplace. The setting allows Emma to speak with Alexa in UK-English, access region-specific and multi-language skills such as MyTaxi, JustEat, the BBC, and more, as well as voice shop on Amazon.co.uk.
Ben is a German-speaking Amazon customer located in Seattle. He recently purchased a device with an AVS integration. During the out-of-the-box experience, Ben links to his Amazon account, where he has set the U.S. as his primary marketplace. Wanting to speak with Alexa in German, Ben switches his primary language to German on the device. The setting allows Ben to speak German to Alexa, but still access local skills in the US.
