Q: When submitting my skill through the submission form, can I submit my skill name instead of my skill ID?
A: No, a skill ID is required for your submission to constitute a complete submission. Incomplete submissions will be marked as invalid. You must include the amzn1 at the front of your skill ID and it must be copied exactly as shown in your Amazon Developer Console account (it is case sensitive).
Q: How do I find my skill ID?
A: You can find your Skill ID by logging into developer.amazon.com and navigating to Amazon Developer Console > Alexa Skills Kit > View Skill ID. The Skill ID is unique and typically starts with amzn1.ask.skill or amzn1.echo-sdk-ams.app.
Q: Do I have to wait for my skill to go live before I can submit my skill(s) for the promotions?
A: Yes. Your skill must be published to the India Alexa Skills Store prior to applying for promotion or your application will be invalid.
Q: I have published a skill but it is only available on the US Alexa Skill Store. How do I get it published on the India Alexa Skills Store?
A: To publish your skill on the Alexa India store and qualify for this promotion, your skill should necessarily have English (IN) as a language model. The default language model while creating a new skill is ‘English (US)’. If you have not chosen ‘English (IN)’ at the time of skill creation, you can add it as a new language model to your skill by going to Language Settings -> Add new language -> English (IN). You will then need to have the skill interaction model created for the ‘English (IN)’ language model and resubmit the skill for certification. For more details, please refer to the documentation on 'how to add a language to an existing skill'. We will consider the skill for the developer promotion provided the skill is live on the India Alexa Skill Store, within the offer period.
Q: I built a skill with a few of my friends. Can we all apply for the promotion using the same skill ID?
A: No. Each skill ID may be used only once. The Benefit will be sent only to the person listed as the primary owner of the Developer Account associated with the eligible skill, at the physical address associated with the Developer Account.
Q: I published my skill to the India Alexa Skills Store, but I live in another country. Can I still apply to the India promotion?
A: No. Developer location on the Company Profile page in the Amazon Developer Console is the determining source for eligibility. You must reside in India to qualify.
Q: What happens if I submit multiple times to the same promotion?
A: We will review only your last submission during the Offer Period.
Q: Do I have to publish the skill to the India Alexa Skills Store?
A: Yes, your skill should be live on the India Alexa Skill Store to be eligible for the Offer. However, we encourage you to publish your Alexa skill to other Skill Stores as well to allow customers across the globe to use your skill.
Q: For the Bonus Offer, will you count unique users of my skill across all Alexa Skill stores or is it only on the India Alexa Skills Store?
A: We will consider all unique users that enable and use your skill on Amazon Echo devices across all Alexa skill stores for the promotion.
Q: Do I have to wait for my skill to get 500 users before submitting the Offer application form?
A: No. You can submit the Offer application form after your skill is published on the India Alexa Skill Store. You need not wait for your skill to receive 500 unique users to submit the Offer application form.
Q. What constitutes an APL Skill?
A. The Alexa Presentation Language (APL) is Amazon’s new voice-first design language you can use to create rich, interactive displays for Alexa skills and tailor the experience for tens of millions of Alexa-enabled devices. Using APL, you can easily build customized, robust displays that coincide with your personal brand and the context of your voice experience. You may have previously developed skills for Alexa-enabled devices with a screen that use display templates, which has limited capabilities compared to APL. With APL, you have the power and flexibility to build multimodal skills with many visual elements–including graphics, images, and slide shows–and to customize the output for different devices. Skills that have APL interface enabled but do not include the APL code will not be considered to be true APL skills and will not be eligible for the promotion.
Q: If my existing skill is already built with Alexa Presentation Language, will it be considered for this Offer?
A: Existing skills which have been built using APL before 16 May 2019, are not eligible for this Offer.
Q: If my existing Alexa Skill has over 1500 new customers as on 15 July 2019, will I be considered for the Bonus Offer?
A; The Bonus Offer is only for new Alexa skills with APL. Existing skills that was published before 16 May 2019 the first time, will not be considered for the Bonus Offer.
Q: If my skill with APL goes live on the India store on 1 June, 2019, how many days will you consider to measure customer engagement of the skill?
A: We will consider customer engagement from the date of skill publication with APL included on the Store (i.e. 1 June, 2019 in this case), to end of day on 15 July, 2019. If you have published a skill the first time on 20 May 2019, and then published the next version of the skill with APL on 1 June, we will consider customer engagement from 1 June 2019 for this Offer. We recommend you publish your skill at the earliest, in order to allow sufficient time for your skill to be used by Alexa customers. We also encourage you to continue improvising your skill during the offer period, to ensure more customers engage with it. Here are the best practices to improve customer engagement for your skill.
Q. Will customers using the skill on the Alexa app (on mobile devices) count towards the unique user count for the Add-On and Bonus Offer?
A. No, only users who have used your skill on an Amazon Echo device will be considered for the unique user count, to determine your eligibility for the Add-On and Bonus Offer.
Q. When will I know if I will receive a T-shirt, or other Benefits under the Offer?
A. If you are to receive a T-shirt, we will let you know by 31 July 2019. If you are to receive the Add-On or Bonus Offer Benefit, you will receive a communication from us confirming your Benefit by 16 August 2019. With respect to the Add-On and Bonus Offer we may reach out to you for additional details before shipping out the Echo Show.
Q. How will I know if my skill has won the Echo Show Bonus Offer?
A. We will communicate your eligibility for the Echo Show devices by 16 August, 2019, should your skill receive the highest number of unique customers enabling and using your skill.
Q. My skill has received 1400 incremental new unique users as on 15 July, 2019. Will I be considered for the Echo Show Bonus Offer?
A. No, you will not. Only developers that have their skills enabled and used from an Amazon Echo device by at least 1500 incremental new unique users as on 15 July 2019, will be eligible to participate in the Bonus Offer. Under the Bonus Offer, the developer with the highest number of unique users as on 15 July 2019 will receive an Amazon Echo Show device. Don’t forget to promote your skill after publishing it!
