Overdraw occurs when an app renders the same pixels multiple times within a single frame, leading to increased graphics processing unit (GPU) overhead and potential performance degradation. With app overdraw detection, you gain insights into areas of your app where overdraw is occurring, and prioritize optimization accordingly. Optimization reduces the GPU load and improves the overall frame rendering performance. When you configure the app overdraw feature, your app shows the overdraw amount corresponding to the user interface (UI) elements in your app. To configure app overdraw detection, see Configure app launch options. In the project launch option, enter SHOW_OVERDRAWN=true. Then, run the app from Vega Studio. The image shows a sample app with the overdraw feature. Avoid app overdraw

  • Remove unnecessary backgrounds in layouts.
  • Flatten the view hierarchy.
  • Reduce transparency.
