Amazon Underground has extended availability to customers on 2nd generation 2012 Fire tablets, giving developers the opportunity to reach another large and active group of customers with their Amazon Underground app or game. Amazon Underground is a new app for Android phones where customers can access over $20,000 in apps, games and in-app items 100% free – that’s over 2,000 apps and games that would normally cost money to download and play. As a developer, Amazon will pay you for every minute your Amazon Underground app is used, by every customer. You can monetize 100% of your Android users, and starting today, that includes customers using Amazon Underground on 2nd generation 2012 Fire tablets. These customers will now find an Underground tab added to the Appstore on their device giving them access to 100% free apps and games on Amazon Underground.
Developers are Successful in Amazon Underground
Amazon Underground launched in August of 2015, enabling developers to get paid for every customer, and generate revenue for every minute of usage. With Amazon Underground, developers have seen their download numbers and their revenue on Amazon increase as a result. We recently sat down with Halfbrick Studios, and GIANTS Software to discuss their success since launching on Amazon Underground.
Halfbrick Studios, the developer of Colossatron, nearly tripled their downloads after the game became available through Amazon Underground, and total revenue rose by more than 750%.
“Session lengths went up, and the overall hours that we saw in the Underground version (compared to the non-Underground Amazon version of the game) were incredible—hundreds of percent higher. It was really amazing to see. All of that translates into more hours played in total, and ultimately, revenue.” –Shaniel Deo, Halfbrick Studios.
Farming Simulator 14 developer, GIANTS Software, saw 3.6x the downloads from Amazon and 1.4x the revenue in the first month.
“While [Amazon Underground] does generate many downloads, players also spend a lot of time with our game on the platform. Our games are deep, complex and offer players many hours of content. Farming Simulator has a lot of content. If you play for 20 hours, you may only experience half of the game. There’s a lot of content with over 60 items to combine, a career system where you can buy and sell items and it’s an open world so you can explore. Thanks to the unique monetization model this quickly lead to a significant increase of our total revenue generated with the product.” - Christian Ammann, GIANTS Software.
