Waipu.tv provides IPTV services for today’s multi-screen, multi-person environment. Having launched in September 2016, waipu.tv calls its service the “TV of the future." With its own fiberglass infrastructure, waipu.tv is able to provide a stable and high definition TV experience for all its customers, more than 50,000 subscribers.
How did German company EXARING AG, developers of waipu.tv, develop this user-centric TV experience?
In this Dev Chat, the team discusses why they challenged the notion that the TV is the “first screen” for media consumption and how that affected their mindset when developing their app. They also explain the crucial role of Login with Amazon for their user-centric approach and how enabling the Amazon API has helped them generate users more easily.
A true multi-screen approach
The team behind waipu.tv believes that mobile devices, such as the smartphone, have superseded TVs as the primary screen. Therefore, they developed their app with a true multi-screen approach in mind - where the mobile device is designed to act as a starting point for anytime use while the content can be easily transferred to the Amazon Fire TV app on the big screen.
On their journey to optimize their app, they began introducing Login with Amazon on their Fire TV app and immediately rolled it out to their mobile app.
“It makes it much easier for the customer to try out our product. The data we are seeing so far confirms very clearly that this leads to customers getting into the product much more easily, much quicker, and more often,” said Christoph Bellmer, CEO of EXARING AG.
Shortly after, they incorporated in-app purchasing, which allowed waipu.tv to give millions of Amazon customers the ability to purchase waipu.tv subscriptions using Amazon 1-Click settings.
