Speechcon Reference (Interjections): English (UK)


Speechcons are special words and phrases that Alexa pronounces more expressively. You can include these exclamations in your skill's text-to-speech using SSML.

Including a Speechcon in the Text-to-Speech Response

To include a speechcon in your skill's text-to-speech response, use the <say-as interpret-as="interjection"> SSML tag:

<speak>
    Here is an example of a speechcon. 
    <say-as interpret-as="interjection">abracadabra!</say-as>.
</speak>

You must surround each speechcon with a pause. You can use punctuation, such as a period or comma as shown in the example. Other SSML tags also add a pause, such as <break> or <s>.
