Connected Speaker Overview

Connected Speaker Skills enable users to play and control music on third-party audio systems. In a connected speaker implementation, input and output are separated such that all music output is directed to the third-party system (device manufacturer's system) and all Alexa TTS responses (e.g., weather, flash briefing, traffic reports) are directed to the Alexa input device. Additionally, visual metadata is provided to the device manufacturer, such as album art and artist information, to display in the device manufacturer's companion app.

Connected Speaker Skills are restricted to commercial device makers with multi-room protocols for music playback. To get started with the Connected Speaker Skill APIs and Alexa Music Services, contact your Amazon Business Development representative.
