Steps to Set Up a Gadget


This topic provides an overview of the steps that you take to set up your gadget and use the Alexa Gadgets interfaces.

Preparation

Before you set up your gadget, review the hardware requirements.

Steps

To set up your gadget, go through the following steps:

  1. Create an Amazon developer account – If you don't already have an Amazon developer account, go to the developer portal and click Sign In to create a free account.

  2. Register your gadget – Follow the instructions in Register a Gadget to register your gadget with the Alexa Voice Service (AVS) using the developer portal.

  3. Set up Bluetooth – Set up your gadget with the parameters that are required to connect to an Echo device over Bluetooth. For more information, see Gadget Settings for Classic Bluetooth.

  4. Use the Alexa Gadgets interfaces – At this point, your gadget should be able to receive directives from and send events to Alexa through an Amazon Echo device that is registered to the same account that you used to register the gadget.   5. Test your gadget – Test your gadget using the instructions in Test the Communication Channel.

  6. Submit your gadget – Reach out to the Alexa Gadgets team to determine the next steps toward commercially distributing your gadget.
