Since the introduction of the Amazon Echo, users have been delighted by the magical far-field voice experiences it enables. Today we’re excited to announce that we are sharing our high-performance, far-field voice processing solution with third-party device manufacturers.
The Amazon Alexa 7-Mic Far-Field Dev Kit includes the same 7-microphone circular array found in the Amazon Echo and Amazon technology for wake word recognition, beam forming, noise reduction, echo cancellation, and sample client code for communication with the Alexa Voice Service (AVS). The solution is supported by leading chipset providers, including NXP. With this release, we are making it easier for commercial device manufacturers to build and launch far-field products with Alexa by reducing development time and cost.
Delivering a high-performance voice experience for end users requires smart processing technologies at both the edge and in the cloud. Amazon’s Lab 126, located in the heart of Silicon Valley, developed the unique 7-mic circular array with beam forming to isolate the user’s voice from background noise and deliver high-quality input for processing by AVS in the cloud. The two work in harmony to enable delightful customer interactions with Alexa.

Today’s announcement follows the recent release of the Conexant AudioSmart™ 2-Mic Development Kit for Amazon AVS, a commercial-grade, hands-free reference solution that streamlines the design and implementation of audio front end systems. Conexant’s 2-mic solution is generally available to all developers looking for a cost-effective way to build products with Alexa.
