Development kits for AVS are designed for developers to evaluate the full potential of integrating Alexa into a variety of connected devices, and to give them a jumpstart in prototyping. The ultimate goal is to get product ideas into production faster and more cost-effectively. This is why we're excited to highlight the first broadly available dev kit for AVS with a production-ready SoC, voice input processor, and device application built with the AVS Device SDK. The Synaptics AudioSmart 2-Mic Development Kit for AVS with NXP SoC is optimal for manufacturers going from evaluation, to prototype, to production, with a solution that expedites getting to market with new Alexa-enabled products.
Under its former Conexant name, the AudioSmart 2-Mic Development Kit for AVS was the first hands-free audio front end solution launched to support developers in their Alexa integration. Its proven successes in the development of several mainstream products include the Eufy Genie Smart Speaker and the ecobee4 Alexa-Enabled Thermostat.
In the new configuration of the dev kit we’re highlighting today, NXP’s production-ready i.MX7D dual-core ARM Cortex A7 processor sits on a pico-pi-imx7 board that replaces the Raspberry Pi, and runs Linux, an AVS Client, and a wake word engine tuned to “Alexa.”

In addition to production-grade silicon, this configuration of the dev kit features a sample client built using the AVS Device SDK, which is designed to enable commercial device makers to get to market faster with Alexa-enabled products. The AVS Device SDK provides C++-based libraries that enable your device to process audio inputs and triggers, establish persistent connections with AVS, and handle all Alexa interactions. The Synaptics AudioSmart 2-Mic Development Kit for AVS with NXP SoC is the first dev kit compatible with v1.1 of the AVS Device SDK, which expands Music Service Provider support to include TuneIn, Pandora, SiriusXM, and Amazon Music. NXP will continue to update its software with future versions of the AVS Device SDK so developers have the latest features at their fingertips.
AVS enables developers to integrate Alexa directly into their products, bringing the convenience of voice control to any connected device. AVS provides developers with access to a suite of resources to quickly and easily build Alexa-enabled products, including APIs, hardware development kits, software development kits, and documentation. Through AVS, device makers can add a new intelligent interface to their products and offer customers access to a growing number of Alexa features, smart home integrations, and skills. Just ask, and Alexa will respond. Visit the AVS Developer Portal to get started.
