Earlier this month, we announced the Amazon Alexa track at AWS re:Invent, the largest gathering of the global Amazon developer community. The Alexa Voice Service (AVS) team will be hosting several sessions at this year’s event, giving you an opportunity to learn more about how to integrate Alexa directly into your connected products.
Conference registrants can now sign up to join the breakout sessions, chalk talks, and hands-on workshops to gain more experience with available Alexa development tools – Some may have waitlists, but please request a spot in case one opens up closer to the conference. Below we’ve highlighted some AVS-specific tracks for you to consider.
(ALX305) Designing Far-Field Speech Processing Systems with Intel and the Alexa Voice Service (150min / or 2.5hrs)
Time: November 30, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. and a repeat workshop at 2:30 p.m.
This hands-on technical workshop will dive deep into building voice-forward products with the Alexa Voice Service. Attendees who reserve their spot now will receive the new Intel Speech Enabling Developer Kit. The workshop will cover the basics of the Alexa Voice Service, and teach developers how to build far-field audio front end designs with microphone arrays and speech processing technologies from Intel. (ALX307) Build Alexa-Enabled Prototypes with the AVS Device SDK (150min)
Time: November 28, 2017 at 12:15 p.m. and a repeat workshop on December 1, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.
This workshop will teach attendees how to build a voice-forward Alexa-enabled device with the AVS Device SDK. The session also includes an overview of the AVS technology and commercial development tools, tips for prototyping with Alexa, how-to’s for building a robust C++ client using the SDK, and product testing best practices. By the end of this hands-on workshop, attendees will understand the process for bringing voice experiences to any connected device, and walk out with a working Alexa-enabled prototype on a Raspberry Pi.
(ALX318) Designing Multi-Modal Devices with the Alexa Voice Service (60min)

We read faster than we speak, and speak faster than we type. This is why pairing visual cues to voice responses makes technology interactions feel even more natural. In this advanced talk, attendees will learn how to build Alexa-enabled devices that combine voice and visual responses in a meaningful way for customers. This session covers the design methods, and the development resources for interactive multi-modal design.
(ALX202) Integrate Alexa Voice Technology into Your Product with the Alexa Voice Service (60min)
Time: November 28, 2017 at 1:00 p.m.
In this session, attendees will learn how to use the Alexa Voice Service and its suite of development tools to bring an Alexa-enabled product to market. Attendees will get an overview of how commercial device makers are getting to market faster using the new AVS Device SDK. This intermediate-level session will explain how to choose the right Audio Front End and client-side hardware from a range of commercial-grade development kits. Attendees will walk out with the knowledge required to design products with optimized Alexa voice experiences.
ALX308 - Three Devices Fundamentally Changed by Voice (60min)
Time: November 28, 2017 at 5:30 p.m.
In this session, we explore products that have changed the way we interact with technology by leveraging conversational user interfaces. We deep-dive into building voice-first products by looking at their system architecture, software, and UX design principles. We’ll take a close look at connected speakers, smart home devices, and vehicles.
