Join the Twitch Developers channel this Wednesday to watch the Alexa team and our friends from Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Twitch build a voice-enabled Twitch extension live on stream. Starting at 1:30 pm PT, we will build an extension that allows Twitch streamers to run a raffle for their viewers using their voice. We will walk you through the code and explain each technology (serverless compute with AWS Lambda, web apps for Twitch extensions, and voice user interface design) while we create a fun, real-time interactive experience for the Twitch audience.
When you're playing a game on stream, the last thing you want to do is take your hands off the controller. When you're streaming on Twitch, the easiest way to give your viewers a great experience is to make it interactive. We’re building this extension to give you a way to do both with your voice; a win-win! A streamer will be able to say, "Alexa, start the Twitch Raffle," and give one of the viewers a raffle prize, like joining their raid or picking the next song to play. Viewers don’t have to stop playing to enter the raffle and the host can start the raffle using their voice.
At Amazon, we love finding new and creative ways of making technology work together. This project allows us to combine AWS Lambda (our serverless compute service) with the Alexa voice service and Twitch extensions. We will mostly be building using Node.js, but the concepts that we will cover are language independent.
During the stream, experts from Alexa, AWS, and Twitch will be available to answer questions and make improvements to the extension based on your suggestions. Tune in on Wednesday at 1:30 pm PT and learn along with us as we innovate with voice. Visit the Twitch event page and click on the purple “remind me” button to get a reminder to join the stream before our show starts.
You can find the Alexa team on Twitch every week at twitch.tv/amazonalexa. If you would like to get notifications every time we stream, make sure to follow our channel by clicking the purple heart icon. You can also tune into Twitch every Tuesday at 1 pm PT for Alexa Office Hours. During these weekly one-hour sessions, a rotating cast of Alexa evangelists are available to answer your skill-building questions.
