Today, I’m excited to announce a collaboration between Bloc and Amazon Alexa. Bloc has been providing online coding bootcamps and mentor-led courses in design, web, and mobile development since 2011. With Bloc’s industry-vetted curriculum, students can gain knowledge of modern, practical programming skills and build portfolios of real projects to prepare them for their careers as developers and designers. Now Bloc students can learn about voice design and apply their knowledge by creating new Alexa skills.
Bloc’s new Alexa Project module is now integrated into the following curriculums:
Both Bloc students and Bloc alumni enrolled in these tracks can complete the Alexa Project module as part of the project-oriented curriculum. In the Alexa Project module, students will learn how to build compelling voice experiences with the Alexa Skills Kit and will create new skills (or capabilities) for Alexa to enhance their portfolios. Students will learn the end-to-end process of building and publishing an Alexa skill while receiving the guidance of Bloc mentors along the way. With support at every stage of development, from ideation to voice interaction design, development, debugging and user testing, students will gain the knowledge to build and publish Alexa skills. Students will also blog about their experience with Alexa Skill Kit and share their portfolios to showcase their skills.
“People at Bloc are really excited about the Alexa Project. This impacts student outcomes, improves our curriculum, improves our mentors, improves our product and more.” - Mark Carpenter, Mentor at Bloc & ASK Dev Weekly curator
