Certification Requirements

Before you publish your skill to the Alexa Skills Store, the skill must pass a certification process. To receive certification, your skill must meet requirements for policy, security, functionality, and voice interface and user experience. If you're doing a beta test with a limited group of users, you should also perform these tests to make sure that those users have a good experience.

Submission checklist

To prepare your skill for the certification process, review the following certification requirements.

  1. Make sure that your skill meets the Alexa policy requirements. The policy guidelines help make sure that your skill is appropriate for all customers. Adherence to these guidelines guards the privacy and welfare of Alexa users.

  2. Make sure that your skill meets the security requirements for your method of hosting the service for your skill. Customer trust is important to Amazon. To protect customer data, your skill must meet the Amazon security requirements.

  3. If your skill allows users to make a purchase on Alexa, make sure that you follow the requirements for skills that allow purchases.

  4. If your skill processes Protected Health Information (PHI), make sure that you follow the requirements for skills that are HIPAA-eligible.

  5. If your skill uses Alexa advertising ID for analytics and advertising, you must comply with the Alexa advertising ID policy.

  6. Perform all required skill certification tests.
