In this short tutorial, you will build a fact skill that works on the Amazon Echo and other Alexa-enabled devices. Once you finish and have published your skill you can get free, limited edition Alexa developer apparel.

Step 1: Create your free Amazon Developer Account and name your skill

Start by clicking here to sign in or create a free Amazon account.

Once you’re logged in:

  1. Click here to enter the Alexa section of the Amazon developer console.
  1. Click "Add a New Skill" in the upper right

Name Your Alexa Skill

  1. You are now in the Skill Information area. For “Skill Type” the radio button for “Custom Interaction Model” should be selected
  2. Add the name and cool invocation name (what users will say to launch your skill)
    1. In our example, we’ll be using the name and invocation name “Space Geek.” Users will say, “Alexa, launch Space Geek” to interact with the skill. If you have an idea for your skill, go ahead and name it now.

Select “Next” to start developing the interaction model
