Supported Countries API

Capabilities API, Focus Management, and Interface Versioning

  • The Capabilities API allows products to publish which interfaces and interface versions that they support.
  • Focus Management improves the accuracy of responses from Alexa, specifically, when a user makes an ambiguous request.
  • Interface Versioning allows for versioning of individual interfaces as new features are rolled out and bugs are fixed.

Support for Australia and New Zealand

The Alexa Voice Service (AVS) is now supported in Australia and New Zealand.

  • Documentation for the Settings interface has been updated to support the en_AU locale.
  • The Asia endpoint now supports Australia and New Zealand.

Cloud-Based Wake Word Verification Required for Voice-Initiated Products

Description: Cloud-based wake word verification is now required for all voice-initiated products.
Reason for change: This feature improves “Alexa” wake word accuracy on AVS products by identifying and reducing false wakes that are caused by utterances that sound similar to the wake word.
Effective Date: 15-Mar, 2018
Resolution: Update your product’s client code to use cloud-based wake word verification. This feature is supported in the AVS Device SDK.

Initiator Type Change in ExpectSpeech Directives

Description: The initiator type in ExpectSpeech directives has changed from a string to an object.
Reason for change: Support for future enhancements.
Effective Date: 15-Mar, 2018
Resolution: Ensure that your JSON parser can handle initiator as an object in ExpectSpeech directives.
