Monetization and Advertising Policy

The Amazon Appstore provides numerous ways for you to earn money from your published apps:

  • Download fee: Charge a fee for users to download the app.
  • In-App Purchasing (IAP): Offer items for sale within your app. See In-App Purchasing Overview.

For additional ways to earn revenue from your app, see also Merch By Amazon and Mobile Ads.

In-App Purchasing (IAP)

As detailed in the Amazon Developer Services Agreement, if your app enables purchasing of digital content for use in your app, you must use our In-App Purchasing API or other methods we make available to you. You may not facilitate or direct customers to use other methods of paying for such content. Learn more about our IAP API.

Advertising

Appstore’s general content policies apply to advertising in your app. Apps must also comply with our Advertising ID policy.

Examples of Monetization and Advertising Violations

The examples in this section describe specific app scenarios that violate the Amazon Appstore Content Policies and will be rejected by the Appstore. These lists are not exhaustive, and the examples may change over time as new scenarios arise.

  1. An app that is actually a separate app store from the Amazon Appstore.
  2. Apps that offer compensation for downloading or installing other apps, or for providing product reviews in the Amazon Appstore or another store. Examples of compensation may include digital goods, physical goods, or monetary transactions.

Loot Boxes

Apps offering "loot boxes" or other mechanisms to receive randomized virtual items from a purchase must clearly disclose the odds of receiving each type of item to customers prior to purchase.
