Today, we are happy to announce the Internet of Voice (IoV) Challenge on Hackster.io, a developer community dedicated to learning hardware.

We’ve partnered with Hackster.io and Raspberry Pi to challenge DIY artisans of the world to build compelling IoT voice experiences using Raspberry Pi and Amazon Alexa. Makers have already started inventing new IoV products. We’ve seen people open and close their blinds and fully control RGB lights with Alexa. Now, we are excited to see what you can invent. The contest will be split into two categories:

Best use of the Alexa Skills Kit (ASK) and Raspberry Pi
Best use of the Alexa Voice Service (AVS) and Raspberry Pi

Contest Category #1: ASK and Pi

The Alexa Skills Kit (ASK) enables developers to easily build capabilities, called skills, for Alexa.  ASK includes self-service APIs, documentation, templates and code samples to get developers on a rapid road to publishing their Alexa skills. For the IoV Challenge, we will award developers who find innovative and clever ways of integrating ASK components into their maker project.

Contest Category #2: AVS and Pi

The Alexa Voice Service enables you to add voice-powered experiences to your connected devices. Your customers can simply speak to Alexa through the microphone on your device and Alexa will respond through your device's speakers. This gives your customers access to Alexa's skills and capabilities, including built-in skills and those created by your or other developers using the Alexa Skills Kit. We’ve already added Alexa to a Raspberry Pi once and can’t wait to see what you can come up with.

Delight end-users and make devices come alive by adding voice interactions. Will you automate something in the home or office? Will you make games that react to speech? How will you use Alexa and Raspberry Pi to entertain, educate, automate, or ...?
