General requirements
The following requirements apply to all templates:
- Save your file in comma-separated values (CSV) format.
- Include the required name columns.
- Don't include spaces in the CSV column headers. Instead, use underscores ("_").
- Don't include capital letters in the CSV column headers.
- Be consistent in the way you refer to the same item. For example, if two users in a People Directory are from the United States, don't set the "country" field to "United States" for one user and "USA" for another user.
Although not required, you can also make the following adjustments:
- Remove unneeded columns.
- Reorder columns.

The values in the name and alternate_names columns should be unique to a row and not conflict with name and alternate_name values for any other row in the template. This helps your knowledge skill determine which row to select when answering. If you'd like to have multiple rows share invocation names or phrases, see Knowledge Skill Case Study: University. |
Example Values |

name_for_answer
Optional.
Data Type | Text |
Max Length/Value | 200 characters |

Unless the first letter of the answer name should always be capitalized, you can leave it lower case. When displaying answers on Alexa devices with screens, knowledge skills automatically capitalize the answer name if it is the first letter of a sentence.

Policies
You use the Policies template to denote the availability and rules governing an amenity for a user group at a location. For example, "Can guests use the wifi at the student union?", where guests are the user_group
, wifi is the amenity_name
, and the student union is the location
.
Each combination of amenity_name
, user_group
, and location
should be unique. The user_group
and location
accept multiple values, which you can use for cases where a policy applies to multiple user_groups
and locations
.
The following table contains key information about the Policies template.
