When submitting the assets for your app to the Amazon Appstore Developer Portal, you’ll have the opportunity to write a description for your app on the Application Details page in the General Information section. Any information you include in the “Description” field will be sent to our team of Amazon editors, who will review your text and update it if necessary.
A successful product description should consider its audience. Be clear, honest, and straightforward about exactly what your app does. If your app is a health and fitness app that tracks calorie intake, explain how that works. Don’t make sweeping claims about how the app will save people's lives. Customers may read that as fluff.
Compelling app descriptions get these right every time: They keep things simple; use basic, clear language; and never include misspellings or incorrect grammar.
Your app's description is your opportunity to show off your product, not to be overly clever or coy. When you sit down to write, consider the following Dos and Don'ts:
- Always use proper punctuation and American English grammar
- Introduce your app clearly and succinctly
- Describe your app's most notable features
- Use conversational language
- Create an emotional connection between your app and your desired customers
- Explain how and why your app will benefit users
- Show off—don't forget to include the attributes that make your app stand out and feel free to do so in detail
- Refer to your app only as "this app" or "an app"—use your app's full name at least once in your product description
- Make false, hyperbolic claims—this type of marketing rarely works and may hurt your app in the long run
- Just write one single sentence—there's more to your app
- Simply list your app's features, explain why these features are awesome and worth adding to a customer’s app collection
- Exercise atypical or inappropriate language that could mislead or confuse customers
