Distributed and maintained by Amazon, the Alexa for PCs solution is designed to make it easy for manufacturers to integrate the Alexa voice experience into Windows 10 PCs. With Alexa for PCs, users can invoke the “Alexa” wake word and ask to check calendars, hear the news, set timers, play music, manage shopping lists, and more.
The Acer Spin 5 Convertible Notebook is a versatile PC that utilizes a revolutionary 360° hinge. The hinge allows the Spin 5 to turn into a laptop, display, tent, or tablet by simply folding it into position. With hands-free voice control from up to 4m away, users can ask Alexa to play music and audiobooks and control smart home devices.
To enable Alexa for PC, Acer leveraged the integrated audio Digital Signal Processor (DSP) that is part of Intel's Smart Sound Technology to provide hardware wake-word functionality. This enabled them to deliver a highly performant, hands-free Alexa experience for end users without impacting system performance or battery life.
For compatible Windows 10 PCs, you can preinstall the Alexa for PC application. If your PC is compatible with hands-free access, users can say the wake word ("Alexa") followed by a question or command. Users can also select the Alexa icon at the bottom of the app, and then say a question or command.
Alexa is built in the cloud, so it is always getting smarter and automatically delivering new capabilities to your PC. From tens of thousands of skills to new features like voice shopping, there’s always something new to learn.
With Alexa on your PC, users can listen to songs from various music providers and hear professionally narrated books from Audible. Users can also control their smart home devices just by using voice.
